More van drivers making use of sanitization stations

More van drivers have been utilizing the COVID-19 sanitization initiative of the Ministry of Transport and Works.
Supervisor at the Leeward bus terminal sanitization station Romano Richards told SEARCHLIGHT yesterday that the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases has seen more van drivers making use of the service.

In April last year, the Ministry asked that minivans register to become part of the government’s COVID-19 minibus sanitization and subsidy programme.

“I am delighted to say about 95 per cent of van drivers come to sanitize at least once per day. However, we are encouraging them to do so more frequently as we know the importance of disinfecting frequently touched areas to prevent COVID-19 transmission,” Richards said.

The sanitization of public transport vehicles takes place daily from 7 am to 6 pm and Richards said he is looking forward to the continued cooperation of the minivan operators.

On Friday January 29, health minister, St Clair “Jimmy” Prince announced that there is community transmission of COVID-19 in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
