There will be at least two quarantine facilities in SVG – PM

THERE WILL be at least two quarantine locations in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) — one of which is a 40-room facility — for persons being quarantined during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves said on Sunday that persons are already in quarantine at a government- run facility.

“…And we’re getting another location of 40 rooms. Hopefully we don’t have to have all of those rooms occupied,” Gonsalves said while speaking on We FM’s ‘Issues at Hand’ programme.

According to the Prime Minister, there are now more than 460 persons under quarantine locally for COVID-19.

Of this number, at least 15 are in the quarantine facility. The others are being quarantined in their private homes.

“I have been told that you have about 15 or so out of the 460 odd, that they have been recalcitrant,” he explained.

“…Not everybody who is in quarantine has to go into these facilities. In no country does that happen. There are particular categories which are defined which will go in.”

He added that the particular categories are defined by the chief medical officer.

Gonsalves did not say when the 40-room facility will become available. But he said that it will be available, along with the existing one in an undisclosed location to accommodate persons who will be required to go into quarantine.
