Youlou Art Centre now located at Indian Bay

Youlou Art Centre, established March 4, 2017 at Villa Beach has relocated to Indian Bay.  It is the home of Youlou Arts Foundation a non-profit arts organization founded in 2000.

Youlou Art Centre is the first Art Centre and Gallery in St Vincent. The Centre, truly dedicated to nurturing and encouraging the arts in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, is first and foremost, an educational institution and a community gathering space offering art classes and specialized training to children and adults. It provides classroom space, and is a venue for local and visiting artists to exhibit their work.  

The Youlou Art Centre has distinguished itself by offering an array of art shows, classes and events, it will continue to do the same. 

To date the Gallery has had eight art shows featuring mainland and Grenadines artists.  

It has offered many varied and interesting workshops such as, jewelry making, puppet making, basic sewing, and learning to crochet.  

Also a weekly Saturday morning children’s art program called “Hello Art” geared for children age 5 to 12.

Public events have featured book launches, and the screening of the film “Reclaiming Paget Farm”, an award winning documentary by first time Bequia Filmmakers. 

In an effort to nurture the arts and crafts the Youlou Centre organized a Craft Fair. The plan is to continue offering more of such events.

Another community effort, is the popular painting evenings offered at the Centre. They are an attempt to get the adult public to relax and be creative. They are known as “Sip & Paint” evenings. For a flat fee the Centre provides the necessary art supplies needed to create a work of art. It is an opportunity for the adult public to come to the Centre to “lime” and flex their artistic muscles.
 
The recently established gift shop is well worth a visit, when looking for local gifts this is the to go place. This unique shop stocks a large collection of hand painted T-shirts for children and adults, and a variety of locally made products such as jewelry, straw bags, vases, hand embroidered dolls and books by local authors. There are products from Brio Che, hand picked sea salt from Union Island and much more. 

Future plans for the shop are to stock prints and posters of art work, along with fine art note cards, basic art supplies and other locally sourced items. 

Youlou Art Centre is putting out a call to local craftspeople to get in touch with the Centre, if they are interested in having their products sold in the gift shop.
