Renewal@40: From the ‘79 archives
TUESDAY, April 10, 1979: Kenneth “Vibrating Scakes” Alleyne was elected President of the SVG Calypsonians Association when it held its second Annual General Meeting at the Peace Memorial Hall. Other officers elected were Errol “De Man Age” Rose (Vice President), Macklene “Freddie” Laborde (General Secretary), Fidel “Producer” Taylor (Asst.
Sec), Earl “Exposer Isles (Treasurer), Claudius “Samaritan” Morgan (PRO) and Leonard “Summers” Forbes (Trustee). “De Man Age” had just won his battle for reinstatement after being fired by the government.
Among plans for the 1979 season, it was decided that the Association would no longer operate calypso tents but these would be organised by individual calypsonians. Sadly, there was to be no Carnival in 1979.
