Venezuela to host a ‘Poetic Song to SVG’ today
The Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela through its Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Cooperation Hugo Chávez Frías will host the event “Poetic Song to St Vincent and the Grenadines” today, Friday, March 29, at the Mangoz Restaurant, Villa.
The objective of the event, which begins at 5 pm, is to commemorate International Women’s Day, World Poetry Day and the Day of the Abolition of slavery in Venezuela.
A release from the Venezuelan Embassy said the activity has been organized in conjunction with the Solidarity Group with Venezuela and the National Council of Women of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), who will pay special tribute to the pioneer of the feminist movement in Venezuela, Algeria Laya and the late Vincentian educator, Germaine ‘Granny’ Rose; women who achieved a milestone in the struggle for the rights of women and peoples.
As a tribute to these female leaders at the event, there will be readings of poems, musical presentations, and artistic presentations.
Expected to be present are invited guests such as: Jomo Thomas, Speaker of the House of Assembly; Kafi Rose and Dexter Rose, relatives of the honoree; Vilma Reyes Valdespino, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba; Nerissa King, Vincentian poet; Beverly Richards, President of the National Council of Women; Mike Browne, President of the Vincentian Association of Venezuela Vincentian Friendship Association, among others.
The release said with this type of activity, the Bolivarian Government continues to open spaces for the development of cultural activities that pay tribute to the promotion of the identity values of our peoples.
