Bobb wins fourth leg of Guinness pool competition
After a series of mishaps and unforced errors, Edgar ‘Benji’ Bobb emerged victorious in the fourth leg of the 2019 annual Guinness pool competition.
This leg of the competition was held at the Drop Off Nightclub in San Souci last Friday, February 22.
On several occasions, Bobb seemed a goner, but errors by his opponents helped him over the line and at the end of the night, he walked away with the $600 cash prize and a place in the grand finale.
“I say when it reach out here (Drop Off), I swinging it so I live up to my word,” Bobb said after winning. He had competed in the other three legs and lost.
He noted that he has been playing pool for the last 30 years and he loves the competition as it gives players an opportunity to show and test their skills.
“Of course I will win in the finals,” Bobb also commented.
The grand finale takes place on Saturday April 6 at the Spotlight Stadium in Georgetown.
Action continued in the tournament at the Police Canteen in Kingstown last Friday March 1. Other legs will take place at the Skyline Bar in Bequia on Saturday March 9, Cool Corner Bar in Cane End on Friday March 15 and Azard’s Bar in Troumaca on Saturday March 23.
Persons register on game night by purchasing three Guinness beverages for $12. Each registered person will play in a best of three game and the winner moves on to the next round until there is only one person left.
The other persons into the finals so far are Roy Bullock of La Croix (won at the West Side Bar in Cemetery Hill), Glenrick Edwards of Georgetown (won at Nan-I’s Shop in Pembroke) and Tex Franklyn (won at Captain Lano’s in Villa).
Players are asked to be at the venue at 6 pm on competition night to register and registration closes at 7 pm.
