Massy stores now has largest cold storage space in SVG
MASSY STORES (SVG) Limited has increased its cold storage capacity from 10,805 cubic feet to 41,950 cubic feet, making the supermarket chain the facility with the biggest cold storage space in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
The new cold storage area was officially commissioned on Friday, December 7 and is located in Kingstown, at Massy Stores Upper Bay Street location.
Speaking at the ceremony General Manager of Massy Stores (SVG) Limited Joanna Justin said the new, bigger, state of the art warehouse refrigeration facility is a modern facility built for efficiency and space utilization.
Thanking all the persons who worked on the project, especially the warehouse team, Justin noted that in their eight years of operation, the warehouse storage capacity of 10,805 cubic feet of refrigerated space was not increased, while the business has grown substantially.
“In order to service our customers, we have been increasing our orders and the number of containers that we bring in on a weekly basis. However, the limited space presented some major efficiency challenges for us. With our increased storage space, we now have improved logistical and operational efficiencies, including no longer having to work late nights to offload containers and send to the other stores because the facility allows for more space,” Justin revealed.
Representative of the board of directors of Massy Stores Hans King was among those witnessing the commissioning of the new and upgraded warehouse facility.
“This is a very significant investment for us, but it is an investment that is well worth it. We are very confident about our place in this market and going forward we expect to see Massy Stores growing from strength to strength.
“I know that the team is very happy about this new development which is designed to enhance capacity, decrease spoilage and losses and increase productivity overall. Massy Stores is now a market leader in the supermarket business in St Vincent and the Grenadines. Our growth in this market over the years is a testimony of the power of customer service and satisfaction which is our focus and one of the main reasons why this project was initiated,” said King.
Operations Manager Dellarice Duncan noted that the team is elated and excited about the refrigeration project, which brings with it some new state of art safety features.
“Persons may ask why we would have a celebration for the commissioning of a freezer. Well for us, this is absolutely necessary since the expansion means we can serve our customers including our growing portfolio of Grenadines customers better, while our work area is also safer. So indeed, this is a grand occasion for all of us,” said Duncan.
The longest serving warehouse team member Alex Browne had the honour of cutting the ribbon. This was followed by a tour of the new facility led by Warehouse Manager Kelly-Ann DeShong.
It was noted during the ceremony that this substantial investment is an indication of the Massy group’s confidence in SVG’s market and economy and that the increased warehousing capacity demonstrates the group’s commitment to bring efficiencies into the organization.
It was also stated that the ability to deliver products promptly and accurately to stores is critical to maintaining the stores’ competitive advantage and what this means to customers is improved product availability, increased offerings and enhanced customer satisfaction.
