Thousands of students return to begin new school year

All schools under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, National Reconciliation and Information reopened yesterday, except the Georgetown Secondary School which will remain closed until Monday September 8.

“The official commencement of the 2018-2019 academic year is a critical time for key stakeholders in education. Thousands of students will be returning to the classroom; some entering the school system for the first time, others entering a new phase in their education. Teachers and principals are expected to manage well the delivery of quality education in the classroom, while officers of the Ministry of Education continue to monitor and supervise the process of teaching and learning.

“This academic year runs from September 3, 2018 to July 5, 2019 and a number of initiatives have been air marked to be implemented over the course of the year. These include the restructuring of the Early Childhood curriculum, the implementation of the OECS Learning Standards and Assessment Framework and the promotion of Technical Vocational Education and Training,” a release from the Ministry of Education said.

All stakeholders are encouraged to get on board in the best interest of the nation’s children.
