GHS has 100 per cent passes in 19 subjects

With a 97.42 per cent pass rate at this year’s Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations the Girls’ High School’s (GHS) headmistress Michele Beache is very proud.

“I am happy that my teachers did what they had to do in order to help these girls achieve the very best that they could have achieve,” Beache told SEARCHLIGHT on Wednesday.

She noted that while she had not done a comprehensive analysis of the results, she is happy at what she is seeing so far and only has queries about one per cent of the results.

“We have to remember that 2018 was one of the years where they had changes in the CSEC syllabus and I think our teachers have done their work and so we are grateful to them,” said Beache.

She said that the school had a 100 per cent pass rate in 19 subjects and between 91.4% and 99.27% passes in six subjects. She said however there could be improvement in Integrated Science which had a pass rate of 59 per cent.

She noted also that students peaked in grade ones in English Literature, Information Technology, Electronic Document Preparation Management and Principles of Business.

“These are the subjects in which our students had the best results,” noted Beache who added that they were able to get their additional mathematics pass rate up from 48 per cent last year to 75 per cent this year.

“General mathematics is also something for us to be proud about, over 99% pass rate with only one student failing maths,” said Beache.
