One Young World Caribbean Caucus to tackle regional developmental issues

The Caribbean Arm of One Young World is set to host its One Young World Caribbean Caucus 2018.

The Caucus will be held in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago from August 29 -30, 2018.

The One Young World Caribbean Caucus is an annual conference of OYW Ambassadors from throughout the Caribbean region. One Young World Ambassadors are the former participants of One Young World Summits, which take place every year in a different country. These Summits are organized by London-based charity One Young World, and annually feature a powerhouse of internationally acclaimed speakers, such as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, Amal Clooney, Emma Watson, President Vincente Fox of Mexico, President Mary Robinson of Ireland and many more.

Apart from OYW Caribbean Ambassadors, young leaders in the areas of economy, sport, arts and entertainment, gender and sexual rights, politics and government, religion, environmental sustainability, education and health from across the Caribbean, will be in attendance.

These young leaders, including ambassadors from St Vincent and the Grenadines, will discuss key developmental issues and solutions in the above areas.

The One Young World Caribbean Region is headed by coordinating ambassador Kieron Joseph Samaroo of Trinidad and Tobago. According to Samaroo, “One Young World represents the highest hopes that our world can be made a better place for all. It brings together the brightest, hardest-working, most inspiring young leaders from across the world and exposes them to fresh ideas, international issues, and insights on how they can make an impact in their respective areas. We are excited to host all of these young people from across the Caribbean, including St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).”

Samaroo continued, “Additionally, OYW has over 80 ambassadors from across the Caribbean region, of whom seven are from SVG. These ambassadors include Christopher Julian Grant, Niesha John, Shalisa Samuel, Franz George, Nafesha Richardson, Tamira Browne and Dillon Ollivierre. They are all doing exceptional work in the areas of entrepreneurship, education development, digital access and environmental sustainability. We are proud of them all and we are building on the excellent and selfless work that these seven SVG ambassadors do.”

This will be the second OYW Caribbean Caucus. The inaugural Caucus was held in Trinidad and Tobago in 2017, and it is envisioned that after this year, the Caucus will take place in different Caribbean territories.
