Pastor calls on fathers to fulfill responsibilities

Fathers or those who play that role in the lives of students of the CW Prescod Primary School have been implored to fulfil their responsibilities as fathers.

That advice came from feature speaker Dr Reynold Murray, as he delivered his address at the institution’s second Fathers’ Conference held on June 14 at Frenches House.

Murray, in his presentation, called on fathers to be the best role models and to guide their offspring.

“If you allow your children to walk the streets half dressed…. If you allow your children to spew out the same vulgarity that they hear from you, are you leading them,” Murray asked.

He therefore suggested: “You need to guide them in such a way that the lifestyle they develop, leads them into prosperity.”

Cognisant that there are other variables which would infringe on the training and upbringing of children, Murray was adamant that the role of fathers is very critical and impactful.

“Whatever happens to your children down the road, blame yourself,” Murray opined.

Murray underscored that fathers must be the providers of wisdom to their children.

“Don’t let them go the street corners and some little guys speak some sweet nothingness in their ears and confuse them because you were not there to speak wisdom in their lives…. You as fathers must speak wisdom into your sons and daughters as there is no segregation in your role as a father,” the feature speaker charged.

“The role of a father is not that authoritarian, bulldozing his way…. He is a lover, a protector, a guider…. So fathers, you have to provide for your children…. You not only provide material things….Too many of us think that we only have to provide material things,” Murray stated forcefully.

In imploring the “fathers to be fathers,” Murray proffered, “There is a future we want, but there is future we will get….The one you want is just a dream…. The one you get is the one you make.”
Last Saturday’s conference was held under the theme “Bridging the Gap”.

It was a joint effort of the school’s Parent Teacher Association and the school’s Fathers Support Group.
