‘Dr Weed’ succumbs to gunshot injuries

This country recorded its seventh murder for 2018 last Sunday, March 25.

Akeem “Bush” Cambridge, also called “Dr Weed” by his friends, was shot twice in his forehead at around 5 a.m. at Old Montrose/Block 2000 in front of his home.

He was rushed to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) and died sometime after 9 a.m., a little over four hours after he was wounded.

Lydia Cambridge, the dead man’s mother, said she was awakened by loud explosions and thought that they were fireworks.

“I ain’t feel pleased about what happened,” said Lydia, who thinks that more than one person is responsible for her son’s killing.

She said that Akeem lived with her and he was the second of her four children and was himself a father of one, but also had three stepchildren.

A friend of the slain 27-year-old farmer said that when Akeem was shot, he got up and went inside his house to lie down, before being rushed to the MCMH.

He said he did not know Akeem had been shot because he got up and thought that the blood had come from a wound caused when Akeem fell down.

Police detained a suspect, but up to press time, no one was charged for Akeem’s killing.

One of the dead man’s friends said Akeem was recently involved in an altercation, in which a man was injured. The man told SEARCHLIGHT that a few weeks ago, Akeem chased a man with a cutlass and that man fell and injured his face.
