Qatar discusses developing economic relations with SVG

Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Camillo Gonsalves was in Qatar earlier this week, where he met with Qatari government officials and the Qatar Chamber.

According to Peninsula, Qatar’s daily newspaper, on Monday, Gonsalves and his delegation met with Minister of Economy and Commerce HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed Al Thani.

The Minister of Economy and Commerce welcomed Gonsalves and pointed out the importance of promoting and developing economic relations between the two countries and increasing the volume of trade exchange to serve the interests of both countries.

The Minister called for the encouragement of businessmen in both countries, enabling them to play a bigger role and enter into successful strategic and investment partnerships that would push forward bilateral relations in this aspect forward and with rapid steps.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and discussed aspects of joint cooperation, particularly in the economic, trade and investment fields, and means of developing them.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was also signed by the Qatar Chamber and SVG Chamber of Industry and Commerce to enhance cooperation and exchange of information and meetings between the two sides. The MOU was signed on the sidelines of a meeting held between Qatar Chamber and the visiting SVG delegation.

According to Penninsula, Gonsalves said that his country has many investment opportunities in the agricultural sector, where fruit and vegetable farming is a major pillar of the national economy, as well as the tourism sector, as SVG has the most natural attractions in the Caribbean, making it a favourite destination for tourists in the area.

He added that SVG has cooperation relations with the State of Qatar in the political, social, cultural and scientific fields, expressing the hope that the business owners and the private sector in both countries would contribute to strengthening the trade and economic relations.

For his part, vice-chair of Qatar Chamber Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Towar said that the agreement aims to encourage businessmen on both sides to establish investment partnerships that would push forward and promote the bilateral relations in the commercial sector in both countries.

He called on Qatari businessmen to learn about the investment opportunities available in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
