SDA honours members

As this country celebrated its 38th year of Independence, the Seventh-Day Adventist Church at Vermont was doing its part to enhance national pride.

On Saturday, October 28, as part of its worship service, the Paradise Seventh-Day Adventist Church at Vermont honoured seven persons from the community who have made a contribution to some aspect of community life.

The persons recognized were Henry Adams, better known as ‘Henry Bushay,’ for his involvement as a grave digger; Othniel Browne, for his contribution as an educator and community activist; Merla Browne for her invaluable service as a seamstress; Ephraim ‘Teeman’ Jacobs, for his impact on farming and Randolph ‘Boss’ Williams, the longest serving bus operator in the community.

Two other persons were also recognized: Agnes Anthony, the oldest person in the community, and Rodrea Adams, a disciplined youth who has returned excellent results in this year’s CSEC examination.

The ceremony was attended by a large crowd of worshippers, including visitors from the community who turned out to witness this impressive ceremony and participate in the worship service.

The sermon was presented by guest speaker, Pastor Kenan Caine, who spoke on the topic “Unity in Christ”. Using the experience of blind Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46-52), he encouraged worshippers to “experience Christ, obey Christ and follow Christ.

The ceremony ended with a fellowship luncheon, which was attended by many of the worshippers.
