100 graduate teachers to be appointed January 2018
Some 100 teachers will, from January 1, 2018, be appointed as graduate teachers and paid a graduate salary that will see them taking home more money at the end of the month.
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves made this announcement last Friday, October 27, at Victoria Park, while delivering an address for the 38th anniversary of Independence at the military parade.
Gonsalves said the Education Revolution has been so successful in facilitating teachers to obtain university education that a problem developed, wherein there are insufficient graduate teacher posts available.
ââ¦So, those who have not been so appointed have been paid a graduate allowance, but a significant amount of those graduates, because they are close to or at the top of their current salary scale, their graduate allowance is small,â said the Prime Minister.
Gonsalves promised that this will be corrected as of January 1, 2018, when all teachers who graduated from university up to and including 2012, about 100 of them, and who have not been appointed to the graduate teacher grade, will be so appointed.
Gonsalves said other graduate teachers who graduated after 2013, but who have not been appointed to the grade of graduate teacher, will be so appointed over the next three years.
âI am sure that the teachers will be very pleased about this,â he said. (LC)
