Twenty-nine students receive National Awards for academic excellence
Twenty-nine students have received National Awards for the academic year 2017/2017.
The Ministry of Education, National Reconciliation and Ecclesiastical Affairs, in a release issued yesterday, said the students are those who are deemed to have the best claims to the awards based on their performance in the May/June 2017 Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).
Of the 29 students, 16 have been awarded National Scholarships. They are: Kairel Edwards, Thandi Myers, Abigail Scott, Kayenna Bullock, Lashontae Shepherd, Jeremiah Augustus, Kadeem De Shong, Milieko Edwards, Che Grant, Shannique Alleyne, Christian Friday, Alexcia Burgin, Chrislon Fraser, Mikhailla Matthias, Michaela Miguel and Daree Myers. They will each receive full funding for a five-year period of study.
Of the 16 National Scholarship winners, Kairel Edwards, Thandi Myers and Abigail Scott will receive the Prime Ministerâs Award. In addition to the five-year scholarship, Edwards, Myers and Scott will also receive a $10,000 cash award.
Seven other students have been awarded exhibitions. They are: Kamla David, Arielle Roberts, Tahleze Marksman, Akeem Muhammad, Toni Pompey, Donley Stapleton and Rhaine Williams. They will each receive three years full funding for their studies
Justene Farrell, Shania Leslie, Ariel Lewis, Dorien Antrobus, Darron Farrell and Teron Pope will receive bursaries, which entitle them to receive $20,000 each year for a three-year period.
The awardees will be recognized on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at the annual Schoolsâ Independence Rally at the Victoria Park.
