WSGS ranks among nation’s top 10 in CSEC

For the fourth consecutive year, the West St George Secondary School (WSGSS), located at Belair, has been ranked in the nation’s top 10 secondary schools, based on its performance in the CSEC examinations.

This year, the school achieved an overall pass rate of 70.04 per cent. In 2014, the school had a pass rate of 67.8 per cent, in 2015, a pass rate of 71.6 per cent and 70 per cent in 2016.

This year, 49 students wrote the CSEC examinations and returned the following commendable results:

One student, Allison Davis, passed nine subjects; two students, Kurt Collis and Shanina Soleyn, each passed seven subjects; a total of 26 students passed between four and nine subjects.

The school has gained 100 per cent pass rates in Electronic Documentation Preparation Management (EDPM), Family and Resource Management Technical, Office Administration, Physical Education and Theatre Arts (which students at the school wrote for the first time this year).

Principles of Accounts must be singled out for special mention, as it has moved from no passes in 2016 to a 100 per cent pass rate in 2017. Agricultural Science also did well, with a pass rate of 96.9 per cent.

“The WSGSS continues to transform the behavioural and cognitive performances of its students, who often enter Form One at the lower end of the CPEA results.

“We are proud of our students and remain unwaveringly dedicated to our task of helping them to realize their self-worth and the greatness that lies within each of them.

“The West St George Secondary School also takes this opportunity to publicly remember and honour the life and contribution of Radika Jack, the Head of Department of the Science and Mathematics Department, who died during the summer vacation. Miss Jack will forever live on in the hearts of her colleagues and students she has inspired over the years,” a release from the school said.
