30 participants complete food drying training

Approximately 30 persons have benefitted from a Trainer of Trainers Course on Best Manufacturing Practices under a Fruit Drying Project at the VincyFresh Processing Facility at Diamond.

The course, which ran from August 21 to 25, drew its participants from the Department of Adult and Continuing Education and the Ministry of Agriculture and farmers.

The course was the second in a series implemented under a South-South cooperation project through the Government of Colombia.

The first course on Cocoa Cultivation for Local Producers and Extension Workers was held from August 13 to 17. The other courses will look at the Fruit Drying and Processing of Fine Chocolate. The courses are being implemented by the National Learning Service of Colombia.

The project, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Education – Adult and Continuing Education Division, with the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Transformation, Forestry and Fisheries providing technical support, involves three phases: a scoping mission, which was completed in May/June 2017; in-country delivery of four courses to 30 trainer of trainers participants; and training of top trainees in Colombia.

The implementation of the project is expected to contribute to the strengthening of the bilateral relations between St Vincent and the Grenadines and Columbia.
