$1.4 million repair project being carried out on schools

Thirty-seven schools throughout the country are expected to benefit from a $1.4 million repair project which is being carried out by the Roads, Buildings and General Services Authority (BRAGSA).

The school repair project sees work being done on schools, including the Thomas Saunders Secondary School (TSSS), the Georgetown Government School (GGS), the West St George Secondary School (WSGSC), the Gomea Methodist School (GMS), the North Union Secondary School (NUSS), the Campden Park Secondary School (CPSS), the St Clair Dacon Secondary School (SCDSC) and the Kingstown Government School (KGS).

The TSSS is having work done to rectify a termite problem, while plumbing and other works at a cost of EC$109,000 are being carried out. Electrical work is being carried out at the GGS, while the WSGSS and the GMS ($4,726) will have plumbing works conducted.

Some EC$360,000 is earmarked for the NUSS and that money will be used to fix several issues, like ceiling problems and painting. Minister of Transport and Works Julian Francis said on Monday that this job will be done over a period of time.

At the CPSS, some EC$32,000 is expected to be spent and this includes electrical work while the SCDSC and the KGS will have electrical and plumbing work done. The KGS is also expecting other repairs under the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF).

Some of the repairs were done over the holiday season, but some will extend into the new school year, which begins on Monday, September 4.(LC)
