FLOW community drive makes first stop in Sandy Bay

FLOW has begun its after Carnival community drive and as a result, over 200 children from Sandy Bay and surrounding areas were last Saturday treated to a day of fun, games and gifts.

The spreading of joy came during an event called “The 2017 Kids Summer Splash,” which began at 1 p.m. with a movie (Boss Baby) being shown in a theatre-like setting.

After the movie, Marketing and Corporate Communications manager at FLOW Nikala Williams and Vincy Splash (youth group from Kingstown Baptist Church) led the children in a warm-up session that prepared them for sporting activities, which included relay matches, five-a-side soccer and a race between the kids and the FLOW team.

During the event, the children were treated to face painting, popsicles, ice cream and other snacks. Playtime with Uncle Skinny was also part of the event, as they partnered with FLOW to provide an added attraction, Dora the Explorer.

At the end of the day, the children were given a FLOW goodie bag, filled with snacks and school supplies.

“After Carnival we continued our community focus.  The first thing we did was our Internet Summer School, then we gave out of scholarships and we have now moved onto our community drive,” Williams explained to SEARCHLIGHT.    

“Parents, kids and other community groups came out in their numbers to enjoy this activity, which was well received by all.  At the end, everyone had only one question: ‘when is FLOW coming back?’” said Williams.

Williams revealed that the 2017 FLOW Kids Summer Splash will take place in two other communities – Greiggs on August 19 and Petit Bordel on August 26.

Last year, the event was held in Barrouallie, Keartons and Mesopotamia.
