Planned industrial action by LIAT pilots averted

Planned industrial action by LIAT pilots has been averted.

In a press release from LIAT on May 24, the airline said the action was called off following a meeting between management and the Leeward Islands Airline Pilots Association (LIALPA).

They also reassured passengers that flights would operate as scheduled on May 25.

“The decision was cordial and the management and pilots have reached a mutually amicable decision on outstanding issues,” the release said.

This meeting came after a letter from LIALPA on Sunday that gave management until June 1 to honour the agreements reached with the pilots in January 2017.

In January, LIALPA agreed to a new salary packet after negotiations that had been taking place since 2012.

Last Sunday’s letter also charged that LIAT’s management had acted in bad faith by not honouring its agreement.
