Local historian to launch book on early riots in SVG

Historian Dr Adrian Fraser, in collaboration with the University of the West Indies Open Campus, St Vincent and the Grenadines, will launch his latest book entitled, “The 1935 Riots in St Vincent: From Riots to Adult Suffrage” next week.

The launch takes place on Thursday, December 15 at 6 p.m. at Frenches House. The book is the first comprehensive analysis of the 1935 riots and seeks to give an historical insight into the causes, {{more}}motivations and impacts of the riots in St Vincent.

“Eighty years after this obscured revolt, Dr Fraser distinguishes the peculiar political economy and the Vincentian social and ideological forces that made these events both similar to and different from what happened in the rest of the region. We understand better our Vincentian reality by looking at our social eruption 80 years ago,” a release from the UWI Open Campus said.

The public is invited to the launch and persons are asked to be seated by 5:45 p.m.

The book is available on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/1935-Riots-St-Vincent-Suffrage/dp/9766405972.
