SVG Shottas stage first ever air rifle shoot off

The Arnos Vale shooting range was a hive of activity on Sunday, December 4, as several air rifle enthusiasts met for the first ever shoot off.

The ultimate objective of this exercise is to prepare a team of Vincentian shooters for the Olympics.

The idea to stage the informal shoot off was shared by John Crichton, Kenny Gonsalves and Don De Riggs, who are all air rifle enthusiasts, while Kenny Gonsalves was the main sponsor for this event, {{more}}providing pellets and targets for this first shoot off.

Before the activity got underway, range safety officer, Sgt Samuel, outlined the safety rules, while Kenny Gonsalves demonstrated the use of the different types of air rifles that were on display.

Children under 10 years were also allowed to shoot, under the supervision of adults. It is felt that once the techniques and safety procedures are taught to youngsters, they will grow accustomed to the rules and shooting techniques.

Outstanding performances during the shoot off came from two women, Kiara Crichton and Kolene Mapp, while John Crichton was the only person to hit a perfect bull’s eye in the target shooting competition.

The SVG Shottas would like to thank Kenny Gonsalves for sponsoring the event and Sgt Samuel for his expertise and guidance during the event.
