After a one-year hiatus from the competition, the IHSYL have embraced the 2015/2016 theme. âMEâ¦YOUâ¦WE: A shared vision for a better societyâ and as a result, the group has selected students who are currently benefitting from the programmes being carried out by the group.
These include mentorship and outreach programmes, which are geared towards keeping the students, who were carefully selected, on the right track, by channelling their negative energies into activities that ensure positive outcomes.
Students have already benefitted from workshops and a series of pep talks, headed by highly qualified persons, including medical doctor Camille Nicholls, trichologist Delores Parris-Williams and nutritionist Nicole France.
Dr Nicholls spoke to students about taking care of themselves and their bodies, while Parris-Williams (hairdresser aka trichologist) at Jubilee Beauty Salon and former IHS student, spoke about hair care. France instructed students on proper nutritional practices among other things.
As part of the outreach programme, the Young Leaders are currently visiting schools, while they will visit Her Majestyâs Prison (HMP) and a funeral home, in an effort to show how bad decisions in life can affect oneâs future.
The IHS Young Leaders placed second in the competition in 2014.
