More international assistance for SVG

Latin American countries Mexico and Ecuador have joined the list of contributors to St Vincent and the Grenadines following last Christmas Eve’s flooding disaster.{{more}}

At a press conference at Cabinet Room yesterday, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves announced that Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, had pledged an immediate grant of US $500,000 to this country, as well as Dominica and St Lucia.

Gonsalves revealed that during the meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in Cuba last week, President Nieto also accepted an invitation extended to him for an official visit to St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Also extending assistance is Ecuador, which will send a team of engineers here to conduct assessments related to the construction of one or two bridges, the Prime Minister pointed out.

Other regional and international countries which have extended technical and financial assistance to St Vincent and the Grenadines since the rains and floods include Taiwan, St Kitts and Nevis, Cuba, Venezuela and Morocco among others.
