Bunching not because of upcoming elections – Gonsalves

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves has warned against the belief that the 2014 Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure are filled with capital projects because the next general elections are not too far away.{{more}}

Gonsalves gave the warning as he addressed Parliament on Tuesday.

According to Gonsalves, persons may notice that the Estimates contain a number of large capital projects.

“I do not want anyone to accuse this government of bunching these projects to suit any electoral calendar,” Gonsalves said.

General Elections in St Vincent and the Grenadines are constitutionally due in 2015.

Gonsalves explained that he was hoping to start some of the projects sooner, but administrative matters within the agencies from which they were to receive the loans and grants conspired and led to the bunching.

“This bunching which may appear is not a consequence of design — I do not function like that,” Gonsalves said. (DD)
