This was part of an activity put on by the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church in Mesopotamia known as “Community Guest Day”.

Those recognized for their years of service to the health facility and the community included attendants Rosanna Dasent, 13 years; Jacintha Browne-Mckree, 28 years of service; Shirley Matthews, 25 years; Bridget Jackson, 28 years; Glenda McMillan and Monique Bartholomew, 13 years of service.

Others included male attendants Norman Burnett, 17; Peter Gilbert, 28 and McVale Emmanuelle Kydd, 13 years of service.

Community health workers Christoline Shallow, 17 years and Helena Tesheira, 17 years also received appreciation.

Four nurses were also recognized. These included Elise John, who served during the early years following the establishment of the health facility; Kelitha Henry (34 years as a nurse with 19 served in Mesopotamia); and Mary Harry (19) and Beulah Cecelia Homer (16).

Veronica Luke, superintendent of Sabbath School, said that the event was held because the congregation wanted to show some appreciation to certain members of the community.

“We have selected the Levi Latham clinic because of the service that they would have provided to the community,” Luke said.

“The years range from 13 to 28 years of service at the health centre, so that was why we thought it important to recognize and appreciate them,” she continued.

She said that the organizers of the event were hoping to make the event an annual one.

“We are part of the community that serves us, so instead of just inviting people to come here, we thought it wise to appreciate persons within the community who may have made a contribution.”

She said that the plan was to honour a different sector each year.

“So, we may look at honouring teachers, or grave diggers,” Luke said. (DD)
