CARICOM Youth Ambassador for St Vincent and the Grenadines Tamira Browne has been appointed by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Sub-Regional Office for the Caribbean to sit on the UNFPA Youth Advisory Group for Barbados and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States.

The Youth Advisory Group has been established to ensure that UNFPA’s initiatives are youth friendly and responsive to young people’s concerns, particularly regarding their sexual and reproductive rights and needs, including HIV and AIDS, gender issues and linkages with issues of livelihood.

Browne’s initiation into the group took place on November 29, 2013 at the United Nations House in Barbados. UNFPA regards the establishment and institutionalisation of the group as a concrete expression of their commitment to young people’s empowerment and rights. The group includes youth representatives from across Barbados and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States.

Browne stated that being able to serve in such a capacity is indeed an honour and that she definitely would continue to work to keep in tune with the youth in St Vincent and the Grenadines. She also stressed that she is committed through her work to the development of St Vincent and the Grenadines and the Caribbean region.
