Nine Mornings Committee calls for ‘Lighting up of Kingstown’

The SVG Nine Mornings Committee is making a strong appeal to government departments and businesses in Kingstown to “light up” their premises this Christmas, in keeping with the special 100 years celebration of the Nine Mornings Festival in St Vincent and the Grenadines this year.{{more}}

Chairman Michael Peters is hoping to see at least “one string of lights” on all buildings in Kingstown to give the city a festive look and in keeping with the committee’s efforts over the years to make it the Christmas capital of the world.

Peters says earlier this year the committee wrote to the various business places in town, encouraging them to place “100 lights for 100 years” on their buildings. He said this year over 10,000 visitors and returning nationals are expected in the country and it would help to further promote the festive atmosphere if Kingstown is lit up.

The Nine Mornings Festival will be officially launched this Sunday, December 1.

The proceedings will start at 6 p.m. with a street parade, followed by the lighting of Heritage Square and the SVG Nine Mornings Committee is hoping that the government offices and business places will also turn on their lights on Sunday as well.

The 2013 Nine Mornings Festival is being held under the theme: “Celebrating 100 years of a unique Vincentian tradition.”
