Taiwan President to visit SVG next week

Republic of China (Taiwan) President Ma Ying-jeou will have a packed itinarary, on his inaugural visit to St Vincent and the Grenadines next week.{{more}}

President Ma is scheduled to visit these shores on Saturday, August 17, with a planned arrival at the E.T. Joshua Airport at 8:30 a.m., where he will be greeted by local dignitaries and a 21-gun salute.

This will be followed by a procession to the Botanical Gardens, where the President will plant a tree.

Ma will then move to Government House, where he will meet with Governor-General Sir Frederick Ballantyne, then to Colonarie, for the official opening of the new bridge in the area.

The delegation will next move to the Argyle international airport for a tour of the site, which includes the Taiwanese constructed terminal building.

Prime Minister Gonsalves and President Ma will then meet at the Cabinet Room, where a joint communiqué will be signed by both leaders.

This will be followed by reception hosted by Weber Shih, Ambassador of Taiwan.

President Ma is expected to leave the state later that evening.

St Vincent and the Grenadines and Taiwan established diplomatic relations since August 1981.
