‘Marty’ to be laid to rest today

Popular sports enthusiast Martian King will be laid to rest today.

The funeral service for King, affectionately known by all as ‘Marty,’ will take place at Church of God Worldwide Mission from 2 p.m., {{more}} where well wishers and loved ones will be able to get a final glimpse of the colourful and outspoken Redemption Sharpes resident.

He will be buried at the Kingstown Cemetary.

King passed away on July 17 at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, following a battle with colon cancer.

Kaziah Blugh, his partner of 16 years, said that she and her four children were slowly coming to accept the reality of King’s death.

“He’s already gone, we have to face that reality,” she told SEARCHLIGHT.

‘Marty’ was a key staple at major entertainment, sporting and cultural events – often being seen wearing the distinctive yellow, blue and green and waving the national flag of St Vincent and the Grenadines proudly.

Blugh said that King was extremely proud to wear his national colours, although those close to him said that he was never financially rewarded for displaying his love for country.

“He was always in his national colours and I would say Marty, you have other clothes; he would reply that he was a proud Vincy,” she said.
