This was revealed at a rally that was held in Layou on Tuesday.

Norel Hull, former Central Leeward representative for the party, has decided to leave the post after contesting for the last four elections.

In his welcome remarks, Hull thanked the constituency for their support over the last 15 years and urged the crowd to be supportive of whoever the next candidate will be.

“There are three men who are vying for candidate of the New Democratic Party and I will support whoever that candidate is,” he said. “Tonight, I am asking you as your custodian, go and exercise your right to ensure that the Unity Labour Party is history in the next general election”.

Additionally, master of ceremonies and North Leeward representative Roland Matthews revealed that the president of the Young Democrats, Nick Francis, was a prospective candidate for the constituency.

“I want to give a message to the MP (Member of Parliament) of Central Leeward that brother Nick Francis is what we have in reserve…right here in Central Leeward, because the New Democratic Party, we have quality, we have substance. We have the personnel capable of doing the job when it is necessary,” Matthews told the crowd.

Francis, a Layou resident, had the opportunity to practise his political skills as he addressed the sea of yellow that had gathered on the main road below the platform.

“The time for the New Democratic Party to take the reigns of St Vincent and the Grenadines is now. It is the NDP that had done more for Central Leeward than the Labour Party has ever done, while we have been in Opposition. How much more will the NDP do for the constituency of Central Leeward when we are in Government? How much more will the NDP do, for the people of this constituency who need jobs and need jobs desperately?” Francis said passionately.

An announcement about the new NDP representative for the Central Leeward constituency is expected to be made in the coming weeks.
