‘Go Vincy’ 2013, an experience like no other

Last year, patrons of the “Go Vincy” J’Ouvert band attested to having a good time, but for 2013, J’Ouvert revellers are being promised an experience like no other.{{more}}

Organizers of this year’s event say all is in place for July 7 into J’Ouvert.

This year’s presentation, “Guinness, Go Vincy: Breaking Dawn in association with Sunset Rum,” is expected to be a J’Ouvert band with a difference.

“We decided to use Go Vincy because we wanted to highlight something Vincentian – so everything behind us was to bring out St Vincent and the Grenadines,” André Alexander declared.

Last year’s presentation, their inaugural year in the J’Ouvert band business, was entitled “Rep your Colours,” featuring the national colours.

This year, the featured colours are yellow, or gold and black.

Revellers may opt for the Black Freaks or the Yellow Reveller.

“We will be offering an economical package to everyone,” Deroche said.

So, for only $25, patrons will receive body paint, bandannas, whistles, wrist bands and drinks.

This year, the organizers say that they are trying something different.

“We will be spraying on the body paint, because when we were seeking sponsorship, we heard complaints about paint being thrown about, so we decided to spray,” Alexander said.

A graphic artist will be on hand for those who may want to go a little extra.

Guinness, and an unlimited amount of rum punch will be available.

There will also be a sober zone, for patrons who may feel to take a break from the heavy alcohol consumption, a medic, and a place where patrons can step back for a few minutes and catch their breath.

After all, the festivities are expected to begin at 10 p.m.

“We have in mind this is Guinness and Sunset sponsored, so we want to go all out,” Deroche said.

And when the band hits the road come 4 a.m., the band will be boasting a 40 foot flat bed trailer with two decks.

The action has been shifted to the Container Port, and a night of action awaits.

There will be live performances from Soca artistes such as Fya Empress, Icon, Royale and the Mad Skull family.

The Dj’s will be Nu Koncep, Ruffy, Kash, Captain John and Colombian.

Finally, the organizers say that they are not very much focused on competition, but are concentrating on pleasing their loyal patrons.

“The focus is on having fun, so you can guarantee that you are getting

value for your money,” Alexander said. (DD)
