Fourth, fifth formers internship opportunity

Invest SVG is once again extending the opportunity to all fourth and fifth formers across the country to be a part of its Secondary School Summer Internship Programme (SSSIP).{{more}}

This year 10 students stand to benefit from the programme, which runs July15 to August 9, and the agency is encouraging all eligible students to apply. Tedra Kirby, communications officer at Invest SVG and the programme’s coordinator, stated that Invest SVG’s internship programme was designed to offer students a holistic and accurate experience of the workplace, which is intended to help them when weighing their future academic and career options.

Expanding on the structure of the programme, Kirby stated that the application process is a competitive one, and applicants would be selected based on the presentation of their package (which should include the SSSIP application form, curriculum vitae, a one-page personal statement and an academic recommendation), and the compatibility of interns’ interest with that of the post/organisation he/she is applying for. As an incentive, students will receive a stipend of $400.

This year, students have the option to intern in one of four departments of Invest SVG (1.Marketing, 2. Export Development, 3.Business Facilitation, or 4. Research), or with one of the agency’s programme partners: General Employees Cooperative Credit Union, IKTV, St Vincent & the Grenadines Broadcasting Corporation, Financial Services Authority, and Baptiste & Co Law Firm.

The deadline for applications for this year’s programme is June 28.

A total of 18 students have benefitted from the programme since it started in 2011. Following last year’s internship, four of the students were offered paid extensions, based on their impressive performance.

Interested students should contact Invest SVG at 457-2159 or info@investsvg.com for application forms, or visit the agency’s website for an insight on the programme for the last two years.
