Girls in ICT initiative extended to include third formers

After a successful event last year, the Girls in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Day will be even better in 2013.{{more}}

Every year, the fourth Thursday in April is considered Girls in ICT Day, an international initiative that St Vincent and the Grenadines adopted for the first time last year.

Assistant director in E-Government Affairs Jaqueline Creese noted, in a press conference on Tuesday, that last year’s event was well received by its participants.

“I can say that we had a wonderful time,” Creese said.

“Some 215 girls from 25 schools across the country participated.”

Creese explained that the activities consisted of a two-hour long trip to a business place to observe ICTs and how they are applied in the particular business. She also stated that the activity catered to girls in the fourth form; however, some expressed the view that it would have been a better experience for them in form three, as it is a time when they are deciding on what subjects they would write at the CSEC level.

The assistant director noted that because of this request, the activity has been tailored this year for both third and fourth formers.
