St Mary’s Roman Catholic grabs top awards for Science and Technology Exhibition
Many students left the Methodist Church Hall very happy last Thursday, when the closing and award ceremony of the National Science and Technology Exhibition took place.{{more}}
Juanita Hunte-King, President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Science Teachers Association described the science fair, which had been dormant for approximately six years, as a success and said that she felt confident that they were ready and better prepared to continue with the fair in years to come.
âI feel confident enough to make this statement because of the overwhelming support we have received and for which we are truly grateful,â King said.
The president further noted that from 17 schools, there were 193 participants and 142 registered projects; 95 at primary level and 47 at secondary level.
âSpecial mention must go to students in the primary level, who delivered not only quality projects but quality presentation,â the president said.
Tamara Job Sprott, communications officer for St Vincent Electricity Services (VINLEC), congratulated the participants for their excellent projects and commended the organizers for reviving the event.
She further highlighted that VINLEC, who was the main sponsor for the event, was very pleased to be associated with an event of this kind.
âWe are an engineering based organization, we depend on the sciences to get our jobs completed,â the communications officer said.
St Maryâs Roman Catholic School student Weslyn Antrobus, was awarded with the Most Outstanding Science Fair Project for her project on renewable energy.
The fifth grade studentâs project also earned St Maryâs RC the title of Most Outstanding Primary School Project.
Additionally, the catholic institution won the award for being the Most Outstanding Primary School at the science fair.
As a result of these major awards and a vast amount of individual winners, St Maryâs RC earned the award for being the Most Outstanding Educational Institution.
While the St Vincent Girlsâ High School was awarded the Most Outstanding Secondary School, it was their brother school, St Vincent Grammar School that earned the title of Most Outstanding Secondary School Project.
This project was dubbed âEffects of Household products on Bacteriaâ and was done by fourth form students: Corey Browne, Justin Robinson and Keron Glasgow.
The St Vincent and the Grenadines Science Teachers Association also took the opportunity to thank sponsors, contributors and persons that assisted in staging the science fair.
These sponsors included the Eastern Caribbean Group of Companies (ECGC), National Lotteries Authority, St Vincent Brewery Ltd, COURTS St Vincent Ltd, and Facey Trading St Vincent Ltd.
Contributors to the National Science and Technology Fair were Save-A-Lot Supermarket and Randyâs Supermarket.(BK)
