In the citation letter, the GOPIO Awards Selection Committee said the award was conferred after careful consideration in light of “Your many years of community service for those in St Vincent and the Grenadines, dedication and commitment to the issues of overseas Indian community and your continuing efforts to promote and preserve the values and rich tradition of Indian culture and heritage”.

“It is quite an honour to be the recipient of this prestigious award,” Bullock told SEARCHLIGHT yesterday.

He further stated that the award was a prestigious one and that he was quite pleased to have been selected.

It also mentioned Bullock’s many years of support for the community, in both public and social service, as well as his exemplary achievements and commitment to human rights.

The award will be conferred at GOPIO Awards Banquet, which is being organized for January 6, 2013, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Kochi, India and it is expected that the Bullock will attend on that date to receive the award in person.

Persons from other regions will also receive similar awards.

The GOPIO is an international organisation based in New York and representing some 24 million Indians in the diaspora.

GOPIO recently co-sponsored the International Diaspora Conference, along with the SVG Indian Heritage Foundation and the Ministry of Culture, held in St Vincent in June 2012.
