Former police officer Colin John was appointed Assistant DPP by the Judicial and Legal Services Commission (JLSC) last week.

John, who had risen to the rank of Station Sergeant, took early retirement from the police force after completing his Bar exams. Prior to this promotion, he was Crown Counsel 1 in the DPP’s office.

The JLSC has also given notice of the promotion of former Crown Counsel I, Carl Williams, to the post of Crown Counsel II, while recent law school graduate Karim Nelson has been appointed Crown Counsel I. Nelson assumed duties at the DPP’s office on Wednesday.

The last time a person was appointed to the post of Assistant DPP was in 2003, when present DPP Colin Williams was appointed to assist then DPP Roger Gaspard.
