The telecommunications company made it possible for members of the SVGASA to attend a regional swim meet which was held in Barbados over the weekend beginning from Friday, March 9. The 13-man swim team returned here on Monday, March 12.

President of the SVGASA Andre Cadogan said that the money donated by Digicel made it possible for the swimmers to attend the competition in Barbados.

Cadougan also said that the meet was important as it was used as Olympic preparations for local swimmer Tolga Akcayli and as CARIFTA trials for local swimmers age 11 to 17.

“Our swimmers did well. They improved on their times,” said Cadogan who revealed that a number of swimmers returned with medals, including Akcayli (one gold, two silver and a bronze), Shne Joachim (silver medal in the 50 metre breast stroke), and Storm Halbich (bronze 100 metre back stroke).

The swimmers came up against competitors from Barbados, Grenada, St Lucia and Trinidad, among others, from the region.
