A high capacity forensic Macbook laptop, along with hardware and software and other devices, were handed over to Police Commissioner, Keith Miller by Regional Security Officer George Gaines of the United States Embassy in Barbados, on Wednesday, September 28.

Speaking briefly to reporters in the conference room at the Central Police Station, Miller said the American Embassy has once again come to their assistance in their fight against crime and violence.

The Commissioner noted that the “valuable” piece of equipment will help to improve their policing.

Gaines said the hardware and software will assist investigators with the extraction of digital forensic evidence. Gaines said it will serve to carry out the core precepts of the Caribbean Basin Security initiative, which he noted is the development of capacity for their law enforcement partners in the Caribbean.

Two local police officers have already been trained in the use of the equipment and Miller ensured that officers who are directly involved in that field will receive training also.
