The 32-year-old Sailor and resident of Park Hill won the cash prize of EC $215,000 after randomly selecting his numbers and purchasing them at Fine Print Lotto outlet in Park Hill.

During a handing over cermony that was held at the National Lottery’s office on Thursday, September 22, Burnett was presented his winning cheque by the National Lottery’s General Manager McGregor Sealey.

According to Burnett, his luck came after returning home on vacation from sailing on the Royal Caribbean – ‘Adventure of the Sea’ cruise ship. He explained that even while sailing, whenever the ship docked in other Caribbean islands, such as Grenada or Dominica, where Super Six is played, he would buy tickets.

Expressing his feelings about his winnings, Vertis said it was a happy moment for him and his family.

“I am very happy about it. Since I came home, I told my girlfriend that I win 3 numbers before and Friday I was going to play again and this time I am going to get the whole 6 (numbers). It just happened that I end up getting the 6 numbers,” he said.

He further revealed that his mother is the one who, on a regular basis, records the numbers following the draw on television.

“When I reach home the Saturday morning before I went to bathe, I check the numbers to see wha’ going on. Then I ask my mother if these are the right numbers and she said yes. I then say that if is so, well I win Super Six. I started jumping up and down and she joined in too.

“I then jumped in my van and went Georgetown to tell my girlfriend and she couldn’t believe until I showed her the numbers and she started to laugh; so now everybody happy,” said the sailor.

When asked about his plans for the cash, the father of one said he has no immediate plans for the money.

“I’m just going to put it in the bank and let it stay there for a while until sometime later when I might have something else to do.”

Burnett, who has been sailing for 14 years, also revealed that he has already built his house and will be heading back to sea in two weeks time to continue working.

Burnett is the sixth winner from St. Vincent and the Grenadines to win the Super Six Jackpot since the inception of the game in 2004.(AA)
