On August 2, the Taiwanese Ambassador to St. Vincent and the Grenadines Weber Shih presented a cheque for EC$600,000 to Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves at a short ceremony at the Cabinet Room.
This represents the first tranche of a US$1.5 million dollar grant that will be used to rehabilitate the bridge at Langley Park/Basin Hole, and to provide for a river defence network in the area.
Itâs the second contribution from the Republic of China on Taiwan, in relation to damage caused by the torrential rains of April 11, 2011.
Earlier this year, and following a visit by Prime Minister Gonsalves to Taipei, a grant of US$500,000 was received by the government for relief and rehabilitation.
