Republic of China (Taiwan) celebrates 30 years of diplomatic relations with SVG

In celebration of the centennial of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with St. Vincent and the Grenadines, The Embassy of Taiwan is to kick off a series of activities beginning with two special lectures on March 1 and 2 at the Community College.{{more}}

On March 1, at 10:00am, a presentation will be made by the members of SVG TaiwanICDF Alumni Society, which comprises Vincentian participants in TaiwanICDF workshops over the years and those who graduated from Taiwan’s universities under the Taiwan scholarship programme. President of the Society, Rohan Mc Donald, with Gordon Shallow, Tasheka Haynes and other members, will share with audience their valuable experience of studying in Taiwan.

On March 2, at 10:45am, Ya-sung LEE – a Taiwanese IT volunteer attached to the Information Technology Service Division (ITSD) will make a presentation on ‘Taiwan’s Information Technology: A Taiwanese Volunteer’s perspective’. Moreover, in order to encourage the Vincentian youth to expose themselves to IT area, Lee and his colleague, Hariet Caine, a software engineer from ITSD, will demonstrate how a young person can make efforts to become an IT professional.

In 2011, three types of scholarships will be offered to the students of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, including Taiwan Scholarship, TaiwanICDF Scholarship and MOFA HES scholarship (Mandarin). In the abovementioned lectures, Richard Chen, First Secretary of the Embassy, is to introduce and answer questions concerning these scholarships.

These two lectures will be held in the Hall of the Community College.
