The excitement at the Questelles Government Schoolâs General Assembly on Friday, September 24, was feverish and electrifying.{{more}}
The students, as they congregated for morning devotions, wondered about the two tables which were packed with 23 colourful school bags filled with all types of school equipment: note books, rulers, crayons, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, folders, and they pondered about who would be the proud recipients of these treasures. They knew that there hadnât been any recent competitions, so these could not be prizes.
About 5 months ago, Headteacher of the School, Orde Ballantye, made contact with Brenda McKenzie, the President of the Lake County Caribbean Association, a Miami Based group whose organistion was willing to make a contribution to the students of the school. This organization sourced, posted, cleared and delivered these 23 packed book bags, hence the presentation to the students.
Their local representative, Audrey Daniel, was present to hand over the gifts to the 23 selectees.
McKenzie promised on behalf of her Caribbean Organization that this relationship would continue and the school could anticipate more donations.
The Headteacher, on behalf of the staff, parents and the Ministry of Education, expressed sincerest thanks to the Caribbean Association for supporting Education through this means and looks forward to any other type of support.
