Physical Planning Unit now in Rural districts

Residents in the rural districts and the Grenadines can now access the services of the Physical Planning Unit in their communities. The Unit launched a decentralization programme on July 14, 2010, with the aim of improving access to quality service and enhancing enforcement of minimum building standards.{{more}}

The Unit has collaborated with the Office of the Accountant General and the Ministry of National Security to establish Planning desks in the Revenue/Administrative Offices in Georgetown, Barrouallie, Bequia and Union Island. These will be staffed by three persons, including a Planning Technician, a Building Inspector and a Clerk.

The desks will offer General planning services, including the processing of planning applications, provision of information and guidance on matters related to physical planning; and monitoring and inspection of building sites. It is expected that this initiative will reduce the turnaround time for the processing of applications and reduce transaction cost for developers.

The following is the scheduled operational time for the planning desk:

l Georgetown Desk was established on July 14, 2010, and will be open to the public for business on the second Wednesday of each month, from 8:30 am to 3 pm.

l Barrouallie Desk was established on July 21, 2010, and will be open to the public for business on the third Wednesday of each month, from 8:30 am to 3 pm.

l Bequia Desk was established on the 28th July, 2010, and will be open to the public for business on the fourth Wednesday of each month, from 8:30 am to 3 pm.

l Union Island Desk was established on the 4th August, 2010, and will be open for business on the first Wednesday of each month, from 8:30 am to 3 pm.
