Ministry of Education to hold workshop

A series of two 5-day workshops to train participants in Computer Maintenance is being conducted by the Ministry of Education as part of the “Improvement of Education through the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT)” project being funded by the European Union.{{more}} These workshops, implemented by the Ministry of Education, through the Education Project Management Unit, are for the training of persons to provide computer technical support at educational institutions. The workshops which run from August 9th to 20th, 2010, are being held at the National Centre for Technological Innovation Inc., Sharpe Street, Kingstown.

Twenty persons, including teachers and instructors in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Adult and Continuing Education (ACE), will be trained in the workshops. With this training, these persons will be able to provide “first-line” technical support of ICT resources, as part of a new multi-level computer maintenance protocol being implemented by the Ministry of Education.

The training will cover areas such as Preventative Maintenance, Basic Computer and Network Maintenance, Installing and un-installing software and hardware, the Ministry’s ICT Reporting Requirements and Computer Maintenance Guidelines.

Significant investments are being made by the Ministry of Education to provide institutions with computers and other ICT resources. The need for persons trained in computer maintenance is critical for the integration of ICT in teaching and learning.
