TCMP Summer Programme starts Monday

A one-week summer programme hosted by The Tobago Cays Marine Park (TCMP) for Union Island students starts on Monday, August 16. The programme is back by popular demand after a one-year hiatus. This year’s theme is “Building Future Conservation Leaders.”{{more}}

The overarching objectives of the TCMP’s summer programme are to promote environmental stewardship among Union Island’s student population and to create awareness on the importance of protecting and preserving our natural resources for future generations. All of the twenty spots available to students between the ages of twelve and sixteen were filled completely within two days of the opening of registration.

The TCMP summer programme’s coordinator Lesroy Noel commented: “We are excited to be able to bring the programme back this summer and teach some of our up-and-coming conservation leaders a little bit more about the natural resources of the Tobago Cays and Union Island.”

Funding for the summer programme has come from the Tobago Cays Marine Park and donations from a number of local businesses and community members.

The agenda for the summer programme includes segments on sea turtles, waste management, sailing, and swimming and snorkeling lessons. The programme concludes with a field trip to the Tobago Cays Marine Park.
