Vincie Group donates to six local clinics

The donation of a quantity of medical supplies by the United Vincie Cultural Group of Brooklyn{{more}} (UVCG) has been lauded as an admirable gesture in the challenging economic climate.

The UVCG group donated several boxes of supplies to six clinics at Biabou, Clare Valley, Colonarie, Coulls Hill, Overland and Spring Village during a ceremony at the Music Centre Conference room on Tuesday, July 20, 2010.

Acting Hospital Administrator, Cuthbert Knights, lauded the group for providing the “much needed” medical supplies. Knights added that the group has recognized that there is a void in the system as medical supplies are expensive. He further commended the group on seeing the need to give back to their country.

Also giving brief remarks, Senior Nursing Officer Margaret Edwards expressed gratitude to the UVCG for their contribution, noting that each year the donation of the items is a demonstration of the group’s commitment. Edwards also stated that the items donated will be used in the most efficient way. “We will be accountable and responsible for every item that is given here to us today,” Edwards said.

Founder of the Health Care International (HCI) group, Noel Browne, also made brief remarks. Browne stated that it was the group’s first time in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on an outreach mission. The group founded in 1991 is based in New York and operates on the motto Global Healing helping hands and hearts.

“We are our brother’s keepers, therefore we must help each other no matter where in the world we are,” Browne explained.

A number of wheelchairs, walking sticks, walkers and chairs, along with boxes of medication and other supplies, were also donated to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) by the HCI.

The ceremony also included brief remarks by other MCMH officials and members of the UVCG.

The UVCG was founded in 2003 to provide medical assistance to those in dire need, with emphasis on children and the elderly. (OS)
