At a handing-over ceremony on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, Guardsman representative Asha Wickham presented scholarships to Gillian Smart and Delroy Myers, and bursaries to Osbert Quow and Deneisha Davis.

Eleven-year-old Smart, the daughter of Kenroy and Desmarie Walker, will be attending the St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown in the upcoming academic year.

Son of Kathleen Jacobs, 14-year-old Myers received a continuing scholarship and will be progressing to 3rd Form at the St. Martin’s Secondary School.

Director at Guardsman, Keith Howard, said that the company believes education is important and is dedicated to seeing that it “goes a long way”.

“We see the importance of education in the country, hence, we decided that we should do our part,” he said.

Howard pointed out that the company has been awarding these scholarships and bursaries even before it started making a profit.

Bursary recipients Osbert Quow and Deneisha Davis will be starting secondary school in the new academic year at Georgetown Secondary and St Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua, respectively.

Twelve-year-old Quow is the son of Junior Quow, and Davis, 11, is the daughter of Keisha Davis.(JV)
