Five Vincentians fined $70,000 each for drugs in Montserrat

The five Vincentian men nabbed in a major drug bust in Montserrat last month were sentenced yesterday.{{more}}

Online newspaper, newsmontserrat.com, reports that Elvis Bowens, Lennox Weekes and Daniel Baptsite were each fined $70,000 to be paid within three months. In default, they will spend two years in prison.

The article also reported that the other two: Alison Blue and Keri Codougan were fined $75,000 each. Failure to pay will result in a two year custodial sentence.

On June 25, 2010, the five men pleaded guilty to possession of an undisclosed sum of cannabis with intent to supply. The drugs were estimated at a street value of EC$2.2 million.

The men were arrested follwoing a joint operation between the HMS Manchester and the Royal Montserrat Police Force.
